In a Bulgarian village in the 1930s, a man lives with a young wife and numerous children. He just got back from the war and always seems to have bad luck. The villagers laugh at him and his wife always corrects him. He dreams of living as a venerable gentleman of rank. When that dream comes true, he will be confronted with hypocrisy, greed and violence.
