Quite a confronting film that makes quite an impression, partly due to the strong acting duo and ditto direction. The story is simple in design, but the entertaining and sharp dialogues keep you captivated throughout the film and completely wipe away the idea of a small-scale film.
However, these are not the only plus points of Scenic Route, the images of the desert are beautiful, there is a constant tension and Dan Fogler and Josh Duhamel are very complementary as leading actors.
I also found the storyline very recognizable, although it went too far here and the duo wasn't really lucky.
A great debut therefore by brothers Kevin Goetz and Michael Goetz and it makes me very curious (and then I conveniently disregard the remake of Martyrs, although they certainly did not do badly there either) about the rest of their directing career.
This one is certainly very impressive, partly because of the excellent ending.

Nice.

Ultimately, I only watched it because of the directors. Not that they have a great career to their name, but it at least aroused enough curiosity to give it a chance. When it also came to Film1, I took it with me.

In the end it's quite a pleasant surprise. The summary itself didn't really get me excited, but the final execution was actually quite nice. Although the story never really showed where it wanted to go, I got through it quite quickly.

The best thing about the film is the acting. I was surprised especially by Fogler how well this guy can still act. Duhamel is more of an average person, but was also very good in the end. They really carry the film.

The fights were the best part of the film. They are very smooth and very entertaining while they can also be very funny. In terms of drama there is less to experience. Never really moving and in terms of thriller there are hardly any thriller elements in the end.

The first minutes promise a different film, but the final result is not bad. The story just seems to want to get nowhere. It actually just aims in circles and without a real way out. The ending therefore feels somehow unsatisfactory.

But the pace is reasonable, it never starts to drag and the fights have some hilarious moments. That's why it's still a pass.
