Architect Herbert Rowland (Olaf Fønss) receives a request from the Maharaja of Eschnapur (Conrad Veidt) to build a tomb for his wife Savatri. The condition is that he immediately leaves for India, without telling his bride Irene (Mia May) or anyone else. Arriving in India, Herbert makes a gruesome discovery: the princess for whom he has to build a tomb is still alive, and is in love with the English officer Mac Allen. This is why the Maharaja wants to punish them both with death.
