Zaanse Nachten plot

The story is set in the grey, desolate factory town of Zaandam. The main character is Henk van de Wal, a lost poet and alcoholic who cannot settle in his life. He sees through people with an intelligent sharpness, but does not dare to be himself. Always in search of love and constantly on the hunt for momentary ecstasy, he loses himself in booze.
