Circus Maximus plot

In the last year before the capitulation of Nazi Germany, the director of a small itinerant circus smuggles people from occupied Hungary to Croatian Yugoslavia. Posting the refugees as artists and an old bear, whose mate has died, keeps the appearance of the circus. While the circus owner survives with the refugees' money, her precarious existence is jeopardized by her mentally retarded son.
