The Primrose Path plot
Bruce Armstrong is very rich, but he is also an alcoholic, a gambler and basically worthless as a human being. Even when his little brother Jimmy is paralyzed by his drunkenness, Bruce doesn't change. Successful dancer Marilyn Merrill falls in love with Bruce. But Bruce nevertheless continues to gamble with Marilyn's boss Tom Canfield and when he loses, he writes bad checks. To avoid going to jail, Bruce becomes involved in diamond smuggling and then finds himself in a vicious battle for the loot.

Nice melodrama that can still pass muster thanks to a brisk pace, although the weak main character doesn't really deserve the electric chair rescue by a lame deus ex machina. In the unappealing cast, Clara Bow is the only familiar name, but she is then tucked away in a cheesy supporting role (which of course doesn't prevent her from featuring most prominently on the poster these days). A dime a dozen, but not the worst of the twelve.
