Happy Bang.

Although Danny shows here again that he has to do a little less in terms of level than his brother, who delivered a similar film with Sleepwalker.

Of course it looks beautiful again. You don't have to teach the brothers anything visually. Nice soundtrack too, slightly electronically tinted. Furthermore, it is nice to see Ching Wan Lau in a leading role again, Lam Suet provided a supporting role as always.

The story itself is also quite cool, although it never manages to become completely mysterious. However, the paintwork is quite original and special, there just could have been a little more tension on the film. Otherwise fascinating and certainly worth seeing once, but just lacks that little bit more to go along with Oxide's film.

3.5*

Although Danny is without too much doubt the least talented of the two Pang brothers, this Fairy Tale Killer (Zui Hung) from 2012 is still one of his most successful films where he was solely responsible for the direction. The somewhat mysterious serial killer/thriller is especially convincing on the visual level and the acting is also well taken care of for the most part. I'm used to that from Lau Ching-wan, but the supporting roles of Ken Lo and Felix Lok also add something here. Only with Wang Baoqiang, in the role of one of the suspects, I occasionally had my reservations. Just like with the scenario of Fairy Tale Killer, which I actually found the least part of the film. Entertaining to a certain extent, but little to no surprises and the originality (at least in terms of the story) was hard to find. With the not too long running time of just one and a half hours, the film nevertheless manages to hold the attention reasonably well and the final verdict is still positive. Not a real high flyer, but a good enough is still possible.
