Am Ende die Hoffnung plot
Germany, 1945. After her parents were murdered by the Nazis, young Elizabeth, whom everyone calls Ellen, is active in the resistance with full conviction. In the fight against Hitler's regime, Ellen is recruited as a spy for British intelligence. Their mission: to spy on naval officer Hans Mertens (Max von Pufendorf), who will soon be sailing U-864, a boat carrying extremely dangerous cargo. Although Ellen has been in a long-term relationship with Robert Elbing (Stephan Luca), she falls in love with the sensitive Lieutenant Jack. Believing to act to the best of her knowledge, Ellen provides all the information to the British Secret Service. When she learns that because of this she is signing the death warrant for Hans and his crew, she does everything she can to save her lover's life.
