The criminal 'Slick' Rawley has had plastic surgery at Dr. Schuyler to change his identity. During the operation, Rawley appears to have lost his memory. This becomes apparent when he regains consciousness after the operation. Rawley has become a different person and he decides to help the people by continuing his life as doctor James Blake.
