"Myth and Reality of the Leningrad Blockade"
From September 1941 to January 1944, the German army surrounded Leningrad without taking the city. Due to the blocked supply roads, mass famine broke out among the population, with an estimated one million victims. In the documentary, some survivors - then young but now elderly - look back on that horrific period. They soberly peel the myth created by Stalin's Soviet propaganda machine from the bare reality. They read excerpts from old letters and diaries. In contrast, a school class visits the Museum of the Siege, which shows the official lecture. Archive footage of a frozen corpse on a busy bridge shows how degrading the situation was. Due to the lack of food, cat meat was soon on the menu. A certain Lenina shows a painting of the slaughtered cat that she was given as a birthday meal.
