South Riding plot
Sarah Burton, a confident woman with modern ideas, returns to her native Yorkshire to become a head teacher at a girls' school in South Riding. Sarah has ambition and vision. She wants to thoroughly tackle the state of affairs at her new school and implement all kinds of innovations. But her plans are too wild for local landowner Robert Carne, who is also a member of her school board. They regularly collide with each other. At the same time, they are also attracted to each other. Sarah finds out that Carne is carrying a terrible secret. The situation gets even more complicated when she decides to help Carne's daughter Midge.
