Porte Aperte plot
Palermo, 1937. In cold blood Tomasso kills three people in one morning: his boss who recently fired him, his successor and finally even his own wife. He goes home and waits for the police. Tomasso has little doubt about the outcome of the trial. Under Mussolini's fascist regime, murder has recently become a death sentence. To his surprise, Judge Vito di Vincenzo seems to think otherwise. He is convinced that the death penalty is inhumane and tries scrupulously to follow the law that predates the fascist 'improvements'. Everyone seems to be turning against the judge, even the defendant.
