Sisters of War plot
In January 1942, Southeast Asia is overrun by the Japanese armed forces. On their way is the small Catholic mission Vunapope on the island of New Britain. Here a handful of Australian nurses led by Principal Kay Parker have taken refuge along with a number of wounded Australian soldiers. Abandoned by their commanding officers, they have been left to the Japanese. When the Japanese arrive at Vunapope, the sisters and patients are rescued from a massacre by the mission's leader, Polish-born Bishop Leo Scharmach. He bluffs the Japanese by making them believe that he is a personal friend of Hitler and that the mission station belonged to Hitler.
