Jan Cremer: Ik Schilder, Ik Schrijf, Ik Schilder plot
Jan Cremer (1940) was a rebel from an early age, but could not have imagined that after the publication of his successful novel Ik, Jan Cremer in 1964 he would become a living legend: reviled and lauded. His explicit work was called an attack on 'civil decency', but made him world famous: 'I am my own advertising agency', says Cremer. People still often talk about his cheeky picaresque novel, while he now also has countless other literary and journalistic publications to his name and he is also a passionate artist. Scholten visits him in his studio in Umbria, among other places, where he puts his heart and soul into his colourful, diligent painting. Meanwhile, the artist talks about his life, sources of inspiration and his time in Paris and America, among other places.
