The Battle of Chernobyl plot

"A disaster that shall never be forgotten."

Documentary by Thomas Johnson about the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. On April 26, 1986, the fourth reactor of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in the then Soviet state of Ukraine exploded, not far from the border with Belarus. The explosion set off a chain reaction that threatened to cause a second detonation. For eight months, 800,000 soldiers, miners and civilians worked around the clock to "stop" the radioactivity by building a "sarcophagus" around the destroyed reactor. It was eight months in hell and those involved will never forget that ordeal. This documentary tells the story of twenty years of struggle against a deadly and invisible enemy. That struggle began in the utter chaos of the first days after the disaster: the confusion, disbelief, the limited and inaccurate communication of the authorities, both in the Soviet Union and in the West. It was only after valuable time was lost that the various agencies began to work together.

I never knew much about Chernobyl, but I found it very interesting.

This documentary has answered many questions, it also shows how bad things were, and how people's lives were played with, terrible images beautifully captured on documentary,

After watching the cast-iron series "Chernobyl (2019)" last week, I was curious about other films and documentaries and so I watched this one, because it has a high average here.

This approximately 90-minute documentary about the Chernobyl nuclear disaster by director Thomas Johnson is probably one of the better ones and this documentary largely consists of archive material that has often not been shown before, and various people also speak (including Mikhail Gorbachev, who was the General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union at the time) who were involved in the disaster at the time.

Just like the aforementioned series (which you just have to see), this documentary is also impressive, terrifying (especially with regard to the imminent second explosion, 10 times as strong as the bomb on Hiroshima, which would have wiped out half of Europe), fascinating, interesting and educational and that from the first to the last minute.

A bit unpolished in terms of form, with a hodgepodge of ugly portrayed interviews with those involved, but the content is extremely informative and, above all, poignant. And what great archive material. The aftermath of the nuclear disaster, as well as the impact on the survivors and the environment, is explained in detail, in a very shocking way. Intense and compelling.
