Le Sac de Nankin plot
In 1937, imperialist Japan invaded weakened China to found a colony there. It was a brutal campaign of conquest. Shanghai, the largest city, could not stand. The (then) capital Nanking was the next target. On December 13, the Japanese army took the city. An estimated 300,000 people lost their lives. The Japanese soldiers left a trail of destruction through the areas they passed: looting, murder and burning. In the weeks that followed, civilians were mistreated and murdered simply because they were Chinese. Testimonials from surviving Japanese soldiers are contrasted with those of Chinese civilians.
