Cinema Verite plot
Cinema Verite tells the behind-the-scenes story of the groundbreaking documentary 'An American Family', which spotlighted the life of the Loud family in the early 1970s. The Santa Barbara family became immensely popular, while a new television genre was born: the reality TV series. The show portrayed a family unprepared for the major consequences. For example, we see the parents (Diane Lane, Tim Robbins) struggle with their marriage while raising their children. In particular, mother Pat was criticized for her support for her openly gay son Lance (Thomas Dekker) at a time when homosexuality was rarely represented on television.
