Set against a backdrop of war and poverty, Out of the Ashes follows the extraordinary journey of a team of young Afghan men chasing a seemingly impossible dream, shedding new light on a country known for burqas, bombs, drugs and destruction. 'Out of the Ashes' follows the Afghan cricket team as they struggle to qualify for the 2011 World Cup against all odds. The documentary follows the team for two years, from when they start playing in their shalwar kameezes (covering garment, normally for women) and on dirty sports fields until their journey around the world and their storming of the international leagues.
