Hans Röckle und der Teufel plot
Devil Flammfuß appears with puppeteer and resourceful mechanic Röckle to make a pact with him. Röckle gains magic powers, but will belong to the devil if he develops nothing new in seven times seven hours. Röckle uses the magic powers to help the people. For seamstress Luisa he develops a needle that sews by itself and for Jacob a flute with which he can bring rain to the farmers. The devil appropriates these wonderful things, but must return them because he cannot operate them. However, the people cannot enjoy it either, for the factory owner lowers the seamstress' wages and the landowner desires the flute to water only his own fields. Then Röckle develops binoculars that allow him to see into the future and takes his things there.
