Der Meisterdieb plot
Robert (Max von Thun), who ran away from home as a boy, returns to his hometown as a man, and declares that he has become a master thief. His parents send him away again, because they are afraid that he will end up on the gallows, which is what happens next. While standing in front of the gallows, he makes Count Gustav (Armin Rohde) an offer because he is his godfather: he will perform three impossible tasks to avoid the gallows.
