"Bring out the klowns!"

Fifteen years ago, Edwin went to a clown camp to fulfill his lifelong dream of making people laugh, but no one laughed. The day he graduated as a clown, he was laughed at by everyone and then he freaked out, killing all his fellow students at the camp and then disappearing. Now, despite warnings from a drunken old man, Bonzo has reopened the ranch and a new class of clowns has unsuspectingly applied. When their die-hard instructor Sgt. Funnybone is found dead in a pool of blood and their fun party turns into a struggle for survival.

Troma is always very hit-and-miss for me, but this one was 100% better than expected. The title of course says enough about what kind of film it is: a slasher in a clown camp, with of course an excess of bad make-up, clown tricks and in this case also quite a bit of gore. The film is at times even serious and seriously disturbing with the flashbacks to the child-raping father. Anyway, this was for me the right mix of lame jokes (but not too lame, as can sometimes happen with Troma), characters and also a fair amount of kills and blood, which also makes the horror aspect come into its own. Quite nice!

No, yesterday I couldn't handle Kaufman. However, I can quite enjoy a troma of his. I was also stuck with a lousy image quality, but I didn't really like the square image format either.

Maybe it's also because I don't like clowns at all. I can't stand it and although I love The Simpsons, Krusty is by far the most annoying character in the entire series.

Of course it's not easy to find a balance between the rather gore slasher scenes and the lame drum humor. For me a miss, no so bad it's good this time...
