Due Vite, un Destino plot

Vietnam veteran David Sloane becomes a killer for CIA Colonel Haller to pay for medical care for his dying wife. He must get rid of someone who has gone over to the Mafia, who is also a key witness against the Dellacroce family. To this end, he infiltrates the Cosa Nostra. In reality, however, Haller works for the mafia. The investigation and protection of the renegade falls to Inspector Calarno. David manages to kill the defector. When he learns that he has been tricked, he and Calarno team up to fight the mafia, one by legal means of power, the other by force.
