Where Is Gary? plot

An 'interactive documentary' by Jean-Baptiste Dumont about his search for Gary, a man who has defrauded him and apparently many others. In November 2009, filmmaker Jean-Baptiste Dumont is approached in Brussels South Station by a man who introduces himself as Gary Wilson. Gary says his wallet has been stolen and asks Jean-Baptiste to lend him $100 for the trip home. Gary gives Jean-Baptiste his contact details and promises to transfer the money as soon as he gets home. But because Jean-Baptiste doesn't hear from Gary later, he decides to 'Google' him. And guess what: the man has been using the same trick for years in all kinds of train stations and airports, all over Europe. Jean-Baptiste finds numerous testimonials on the internet. He becomes fascinated by the figure of Gary and wants to track him down. Not so much to recover his 100 euros, but to get to know the man better. Via the internet he launches a call to other victims to contact him. Any clue to find Gary is welcome. The search for Gary turns out to be a bumpy journey, which could be followed in 'webisodes' on the internet and is now summarized in this documentary. A fascinating story that also raises ethical questions.
