The Fourth War plot
Jack Knowles serves in the army on the German border. He not only fights in the Cold War, but also wages his own personal war with his Russian equivalent, Colonel Valachev. Both are embittered and hardened by their wartime experiences, and when the battle between the two erupts, things go from bad to worse.

From a film with Roy Scheider and Jürgen Prochnow you expect something more than this lame intention. The story (indeed unbelievable) is not very good and the execution is not that good. It also fails to captivate and you are glad when it is over. No, then I would much rather watch films like "Jaws" and "Das Boot" in which Roy Scheider and Jürgen Prochnow shine than this mediocre film.

What the makers wanted to say with this film is a mystery to me. Two war veterans on either side of the German-Czech border fight a personal vendetta but the whole situation is extremely unbelievable. Not that it bored me but that was a bizarre affair all round. There is not much action to be seen and the film seems to want to clumsily play the drama card...

Mediocre film about an American colonel who gets into trouble with a Russian colonel. An underdeveloped main character which makes it seem rather unbelievable. Roy Scheider puts on his role quite thick and is therefore quite entertaining. Furthermore a beautiful setting in the snow.
