Molokai: The Story of Father Damien plot
Hawaii, 1873. The volcanic archipelago in the Pacific Ocean is an independent kingdom. British and Americans lobby for power, Protestants and Catholics for the souls. Kalaupapa is a closed and difficult to reach peninsula in the north of Molokai, one of the islands of the archipelago. A leper colony has been established since 1865. Nobody cares about them and it quickly becomes a place of destruction, full of crime, corruption, theft and prostitution. Damien, 33, is sent to Molokai to restore order and authority and to preach Christianity. Against all odds, he manages to gain the trust of the population and bring peace and tranquility to the island. He embarks on a crusade against leprosy and for the humane treatment of the sick.
