Hell plot

"What gave us our beginning, will lead to our end."

It's the near future. The world as we know it no longer exists. For the past 4 years, the sun has shone with immense power and the Earth has become uninhabitable for humans. However, there are rumors that the situation is improving in the mountains. Apparently it's raining there. Marie and her sister Leonie try to pull to the mountains with the help of Phillip and his rickety wagon. However, far before their destination, without petrol and a faltering engine, they are stranded at an abandoned gas station.

In general quite mediocre and not very original (somewhat reminiscent of the film "The Road"). These types of films about an apocalyptic world have been made countless times and are often not very successful (only Mad Max always appealed to me). The film started off nicely, but I soon found it to be cliché and hardly interesting or exciting. Actually, not much happens and the film drags on towards the mediocre ending. Visually (austere, everything withered and hardly any color, which reflected the apocalyptic world well) it still looked quite nice and the unknown cast didn't do that bad either. But this film is certainly nothing more than simple entertainment.

Unremarkable post-apocalyptic thriller, with a very thin story and a lack of charismatic main characters. Fortunately, there are also positives: the visual approach, for example, is very successful, with many deliberately overexposed shots and an effective gray color scheme. In terms of atmosphere, the film is certainly good, supported by a subtly menacing soundtrack, but the slow pace and lack of plot do the film no favors. Produced by Roland Emmerich, but don't expect a spectacle here.

Okay.

The film has a nice concept and a very nice visual interpretation. There is a nice mysterious atmosphere, especially during the first part. When the first night falls, it quickly becomes clear that the daytime scenes are a lot more fascinating (and beautiful), but the film remains interesting.

It's a shame that it gets a little bogged down after that. The concept turns out to be little more than the background for a TCM-like story and the night/dark scenes become increasingly poor. Every time you switch back to the daytime scenes, this is further emphasized.

In the end, more could have been done with it, the ending itself also looks a bit too corny for a film like this. It certainly looks nice at times, the concept is good but the progression could have been a bit more original.

3.0*
