For the enthusiast, a quite enjoyable film that, despite its amateurish appearance, still entertains.

If the films PA and [Rec] don't resonate with you, I'd definitely skip this one. It's more of the same, but with a much weaker execution. The acting quality fluctuates considerably, from mediocre to bad, but it fits the overall mediocre feel of the film. Nevertheless, the location is good, and the basement provides some successful scenes, the highlight being the thermal camera footage of Gacy.

If you like this genre and your expectations are not too high, then this is not a bad film.

2.5*

I had very low expectations because of the negative comments here on MovieMeter. Perhaps that's why my expectations were so low that the film could only be disappointing. That would explain why I still want to call this film just okay. Of course, it's mostly the same, but isn't that always the case with these films?

Any film in the style of The Blair Witch Project, [REC], and Paranormal Activity is quickly torpedoed into "boring" and "predictable," but that's to be expected. In these films, you have to use suggestion. The power of suggestion is often stronger than a jump scare where a monster/ghost or whatever bad guy appears in full view.

I didn't find Gacy House quite scary; I haven't even come up with three good jump scares yet. However, there's a certain tension you always encounter in these films. I like that, but unfortunately, the poor acting detracts from that tension. I was incredibly irritated by almost all the characters.

For the enthusiast, this is a great film to watch in between. If you're not into this kind of film or really expect a [REC] category, then feel free to skip this one.

A short and sweet (standalone) sequel to the Asylum film, which at the time was also a copy of Paranormal Activity. This time, we follow a group of paranormal investigators who enter the house of the infamous John Wayne Gacy, apparently without any difficulty. Director Anthony Fankhauser, in any case, has little use for logic and concentrates more on a lot of bumping between furniture (and people), unsupported by a rather weak cast. The finale pulls out all the stops for camp, and with it, probably unintentional hilarity, but Gacy House ultimately delivers what you'd expect.
