Jokehnen oder Wie Lange Fährt Man von Ostpreußen nach Deutschland? plot
This is the story of little Hermann Stepputat, of his father Charles and his mother Martha and the story of the small fictional village of Jokehnen, somewhere between Angerburg and Insterburg in East Prussia, where little Hermann was born on August 2, 1934. Exactly on that day, when President Paul von Hindenburg dies and Adolf Hitler finally ascends to full dictatorship in Germany. Hermann spends his early childhood carefree and goes to Jokehner's village school, to join the Hitler Youth, like other boys of that age. In the beginning there are no problems, even if the Second World War breaks out. But as the war progresses and the racial policies of the Nazis change, this also becomes very noticeable in Jokehnen.
