"The Kaye way to chaos and corruption."
Georgi (Danny Kaye) is a quack's sidekick who is sent away after yet another silly mistake. He ends up in a village where the residents and corrupt administrators are waiting for a high-ranking controller. Georgi is then mistaken for the controller and the village officials immediately shower him with gifts to appease him. He falls in love with the village's only honest girl, but both the quack and the high-ranking villagers have other plans for him.
