Die Kluge Bauerntochter plot
A poor farmer has only a house and a daughter. The daughter wants to ask the king for land, and they do get it. One day they find a mortar made of gold and the farmer wants to give it to the king. The daughter warns that the king will also want the pestle, but the farmer does not listen. The king takes the mortar and asks if the farmer has found more. The answer is no, but the king also wants the pestle. The man is thrown in prison and given only water and bread. The servants bring the farmer to the king. He does not want to eat or drink and only says that he should have listened to his daughter. The king wonders if the man indeed has such a clever daughter and decides that if she can solve a riddle, she will become his wife. The riddle is: Come to me, neither clothed nor naked, neither on horseback nor in a chariot, neither by road nor by road, and if you succeed I will marry you...
