Pennies from Heaven is about Larry Poole (Bing Crosby). He is an itinerant musician and songwriter who taught himself the art. He befriends an orphaned girl Patsy Smith (Edith Fellows) and her grandfather Gramp Smith (Donald Meek). He is going to help them with their problems, putting his own dream on the back burner.
