Booky & the Secret Santa plot

This story is set in Canada, before World War II. Ten-year-old Booky Thompson lives in an upstairs apartment with her parents, older sister and younger brother. They don't have much money. When Dad gets fired, too, it's time for Booky to start earning money. She goes to watch the Christmas parade with her family. Booky feels that Santa has special attention for her. When Booky goes to help her aunt's candy store on Saturdays, a rich businessman comes by every week. Booky is convinced that he is actually Santa Claus. A friendship develops between them.
