Not really a high-quality family film imo. The acting is nice, but not special. The characters didn't really resonate with me. I especially thought the grandfather himself was quite a vague character and the same goes for the robbery. But the low point for me was those songs. Why did they have to go in anyway? I wonder if that makes younger audiences appreciate the film more. The film actually didn't really interest me. I found most of it on the boring side. I liked the last scenes in Suriname, but they are very short. I can't call the film bad, but it is very mediocre in almost all areas.

2*

Mediocre Dutch youth film that is normally better than this one.

This film has made room for mainly humor and drama, but I don't think it comes across very well.

I also don't find the actors and actresses convincing.

13-year-old Grace [Zoë van der Kust] knows that her dad Teun [Waldemar Torenstra] is not her biological father. After the death of her grandmother, Grace's desire to find out more about her father grows, but her mother [Loes Haverkort] does not want to talk about it. And so Grace turns to her grandfather [Michiel Romeyn], who seems to have lost the thread a bit since her grandmother's death. He doesn't know everything either, but he does what he can to help Grace in the search for her Surinamese family. Van der Kust impresses in her only feature film (so far?) and the play of the children who play the helpful nephews and nieces show that Huisman is an excellent children's director. The screenplay by Sjoerd Kuyper deals with many serious themes in an accessible way, without being condescending, making this an extremely enjoyable film for young and old. The adult actors also literally and figuratively share in the festive cheer, including Leny Breederveld and Beppie Melissen – as two elderly women who stir things up in one of the nicest scenes – and Lange Frans and Yes-R, who report in their own unique way. carrying out the “bank robbery” to which the title refers. Youth drama at its best.
