The Roommate is like an odorless fart: you hear it for a moment, but nothing sticks. In itself this is not a problem, because farting can be entertaining, but to say that you really get something out of it...

We are presented with a standard plot with typical American youngsters. Due to the fact that the acting is all very mediocre, the film never manages to create any tension. In addition, it is all very tame: there is a lot of teasing with female beauty, but this does not lead to exciting things, the same goes for the complete absence of any form of explicit violence.

It's all entertaining somehow, but too little to give the film any kind of quality. I don't understand at all why 'mystery' is still indicated as a genre, it's not more than a teen thriller.

wtf.

Scared that it still comes from a director who has directed quite a few projects. This really looks like a first project from a director who still wants to make it. If that had been the case, I would have looked a little less critically. But this doesn't look like anything.

From the first minutes you have the feeling that there was a big chaos behind the helm. It really doesn't look like anything at all. Although it is clear that there are still certain lines in mind, this film is packed with strange events.

In general, the roles are idiotic and the sound editing is lousy. All sounds and voices seem to have been pasted by a child. It never seems to be in sync with the mouths and it's way too unusual. It's just voiced too clearly and that's why it never gets a completely humane feel.

It seems like the director wanted to convey it all humanely, but I never got the feeling that there was just a glimmer of realism in it. The situations are not exactly innovative and the behavior of each character is different. Not just from Master.

The rest of the acting isn't the best either. Master plays too made. Kelly doesn't impress either. The better roles come from Gigandet and the shorter role from Zane. For the rest there is little soup. Camera work is also too tame and not exactly intense.

It all also works towards a substandard final phase. There is a lot wrong with this movie. But certain scenes still have some form of atmosphere and skill. As if there was a different director in it for a moment. But otherwise this movie is quite a mess.

Sara [Minka Kelly] shares a room on campus with Rebecca [Leighton Meester]. He soon starts to show obsessive behavior but Minka is too stupid to see that. What follows is an accumulation of desperate acts with which Rebecca tries to destroy Jan and Alleman's lives. Eand self-inflicted wounds with a box cutter disappear like snow in the sun and that's not the only inconsistency in this rip-off of Single White Female.
