Solid giallo, albeit a somewhat tame elaboration because the gore is very moderate. The story starts slowly, but eventually becomes more captivating because of the intrigues, the nice cast and the many plot twists. The latter is typical for this genre and often far-fetched, but here you can still put it into perspective with certain surprising twists and you can more or less assume certain actions of the characters. For example, you only know towards the end of the film why that daughter lets herself be seduced so easily and wants to pose naked for the camera. The role of the daughter is played by Jenny Tamburi who has a nice face. However, Rosalba Neri knows how to stand out more because of her dark role and her presence. Silvano Tranquilli as Marco also knows how to fill his role well. It is not predictable at all, because too much happens. How the intrigues relate to each other can be called good and also somewhat surprising. But the director has a nice ending in store for the viewer. 6/10

The plot of this giallo seems too flat for words at first, but then there are still some nice twists. The dramatic ending is to die for. I watched this film in not the best quality, but that did not spoil the fun. It is essentially a thriller, but the all too emphatic, less appropriate soundtrack by Roberto Pregadio does not help. Direction, script and production are in the hands of Silvio Amadio. I have seen a giallo from him before with Amuck. What is noticeable in these two films is the attention to eroticism. In Smile Before Death, attention is mainly drawn by the looks of Jenny Tamburi, who was known for playing younger characters in films. The fact that Silvio Amadio also appears to have a reputation in Italian sex comedies is no coincidence when you watch this here.
