Shirley Adams plot

"The story of a woman who loses her family to violence and poverty, but gains her own sense of self worth."

All Shirley Adams does is take care of her disabled son, Donovan. He was shot in the back of the neck a year ago on his way home from school. Since that time, the Adams family has had to get rid of all of its valuables in order to pay the expensive medical bills. Shirley has no money, no job and no husband, at least not anymore, because this one ran off. Shirley feels so betrayed that she decides not to tell Donovan, but also because she thinks it would worsen Donovan's situation. Shirley decides to accept the situation and hopes Donovan will too. Just at this moment a person comes into their lives who might be able to help them.
