Lucky Country plot

"One day, your luck runs out..."

1902, Australia. Father Nat takes 12-year-old Tom and his sister to a remote farm on the edge of the woods. But Tom's father's desire to work the land and live on it gradually diminishes and he loses his grip on reality. There is a happy response when three ex-soldiers arrive one evening and Tom believes, like his father, that this must have been destined. But the presence of the three creates tension as one of the three reveals to have a secret; he found gold. The allure of gold and the thought of it grips everyone and a psychological war is waged between those present, testing Tom's loyalty to his family in the ultimate way.
