Mississippi plot

"SAIL AWAY ON A CRUISE OF MERRIMENT & MELODY"

Tom, the son of a wealthy Southern family, is disinherited for refusing to duel. He takes a job as a singer on a boat on the Mississippi. After an argument with a notorious crook, in which the latter is shot, the captain of the boat decides to advertise Tom as 'The Singing Killer.'
