An eccentric man is on the run from the authorities. He survives the winter by breaking into empty vacation homes in a remote community. He regularly calls radio shows under the name 'Buster' where he warns of the impending dangers of the Millennium bug. Buster was once Jonah, a hardworking family man and father whose job as a night concierge at a hotel took a toll on his temper and ultimately his marriage. Now he roams around from house to house trying to avoid the local sheriff.

Reasonable film about a man with no permanent residence who breaks into other people's houses to spend the night. An original film with a mysterious plot and a somewhat strange atmosphere. The first part is certainly intriguing, but the story becomes more and more complicated and there is no really satisfying ending (there is undoubtedly a theory behind it, but it escapes me).

A bit of an insignificant video. Malek is strong and the film has plenty of moments that could potentially have been very interesting, but the overall direction is on the good side and never really manages to maintain the right tone. The soundtrack is sometimes reasonable, but often quite all-over-the-place and always somewhat lacking in identity. Towards the end the level goes up a bit and we get some more mindfuck elements, but that again feels a bit too predictable (encountering a hallucination of yourself and such, that works). Not bad, but a director with more balls would have done a good job with this film. Now it's a bit of a gray mouse. 2.5*

Well, I do have a soft spot for these types of films. Mysterious, strange, understated and above all not very explanatory. Is that very good? Not necessarily, but it kept my attention. Do I understand him completely right away? Not necessarily, but I don't see that as a bad thing. I like that cinematic freedom and interpretations.
When it eventually became clear that it was becoming a bit a The Machinist (furthermore, the atmosphere and effect are much better there) it felt a bit easy. Still, the film can handle it. Malek is doing more than well.
I staggered the entire film a bit at an OK grade, but I'm going to raise it a bit because I just love this approach and I'm glad that these types of films are still being made.
