Despite the star cast, a disappointing film about two sisters who are estranged from each other and about voluntary euthanasia. Director Lisa Langseth approaches the issue rather coldly and distantly. There is no empathy. Heavy stuff.
Alicia Vikander is a regular choice of Langseth for the lead roles in her films.

After losing touch for quite some time, sisters Emilie [Eva Green] and Ines [Alicia Vikander] take a break together. Ines is shocked when it turns out that the seriously ill Emilie has chosen to stay at a retreat where a personal companion [Charlotte Rampling] will help Emilie to end her life peacefully on her own terms. A promising premise that does not lead to the dramatic fireworks that you would expect given the strong cast. Beautifully filmed and not bad, but still a bit disappointing.

The idea is certainly interesting, but the execution is rather lackluster - and also somewhat unoriginal, it largely comes down to a somewhat more luxurious version of Soylent Green (1973) - albeit without the food supply aspect. And then again, the idea of hanging the story around the two estranged sisters was perhaps just a bridge too far.

Visually it is only mediocre, the center itself looks like a nice park but to say that there is a genius DoP at work goes too far, and the ladies are definitely not dressed festively. Maybe logical in the context, but that does not make it sweet viewing. And I also found the soundtrack rather whiny.

In terms of subject matter, I found Plus que jamais (2022) much more interesting.
