In the real world you can't do what you want. In the real world you have to make compromises. Mark Blazey doesn't want to live in the real world. Mark is a bright 17-year-old boy from a dysfunctional family who deliberately ruined a scholarship at a prestigious school and is now making a fresh start at the local high school. Here, Mark is closely followed by a self-righteous and domineering headmaster. At home, Mark is saddled with an alcoholic mother and a brother who is regularly in prison. There is tension at school and there is tension at home. When Mark falls deeply in love, his love turns out to be the headmaster's daughter. Simmering tensions reach a boiling point between Mark and the headmaster and between Mark and his mother.
