Kikansha Sensei plot

Around 1960, a young teacher, Yoshioka Seigo, arrives on the island of Hanajima to temporarily teach at the only primary school there. He got that job through an old friendship of his mother who left the island for good thirty years earlier. To the surprise of the children, he writes on the blackboard: "I can't talk". He quickly wins the hearts of the children, but his arrival also opens old wounds.
