Information Received plot

In England, a gang of criminals hires an American safe-cracker, but he is arrested by Scotland Yard before he can make his move. The gang then frees the safecracker, but they are unaware that they have freed Rick Hogan, a deputy who serves as bait. They let him go into hiding at the house of the married couple Sabina and Vic Farlow. When Sabina kills Vic in an argument, she tries to blame Hogan, but Hogan manages to flee in time and calls the gang leader Drake. Drake still carries out the safe-break with Hogan and he then wants to leave the country with the captured secret documents from the government and with Sabina. But first Hogan has to be killed.

I started watching this not bad B-movie because of the director (who was responsible for the bizarre real-life crime drama Dr. Crippen a year later) and lead actor William Sylvester (because of his contribution to 2001: a space odyssey). In the credits I also noticed the cooperation of Nicolas Roeg (in his debut as a cameraman), and all this results in a B-movie that, through its efficiency, lack of sentimentality and atmospheric location work, brings just a little more than its low status suggests. Standard but entertaining and deliciously dark, with Sabina Sesselman as a beautiful femme-fatale, but less standard are the appearance of a prostitute (although her profession is not explicitly mentioned) and a homosexual (who is explicitly called "queer", at a time when his orientation was still punishable, but then he is in prison). Anyone who skips this film will not miss anything, but it did keep me captivated for an hour and fifteen minutes.
