"THE STORY OF PROWL CAR 13...BASED ON THE POLICE FILES OF A GREAT CITY!"
In Los Angeles, the officers and friends Rocky Barnes and Dan Purvis work many night shifts and are on patrol with police car No. 13. Dan is the cynic of the two. He takes the view that all lawbreakers are scum; Rocky has a less outspoken position in that regard. Rocky and Dan are both attracted to Katharine "Kate" Mallory, who is the radio voice of the police station. Conversely, Kate resists both agents because of their dangerous profession: both could be killed during or because of their jobs. She eventually fell in love with Rocky. Rocky and Dan have put murderous criminal Ritchie Garris behind bars, but when Garris vows revenge after his escape, Kate's fears may prove justified. When Rocky is indeed murdered the night before his wedding to Kate, Dan vows revenge.

Interesting, but unbalanced. That's this movie in a nutshell. We are in Los Angeles. And we get a kind of hodgepodge of a police movie (especially the first half is a kind of portrait of the lives of two police officers, a bit of soap opera (the romantic plot), it's an early buddy cop movie somewhere and is relatively less noir than the other five movies I've seen so far, but also has quite an exciting and gritty last half hour.
The villain from this film played by Donald Buka (who had only a very limited career in film) is really nasty and willing to do anything to achieve his goal.
It is a movie made by Gordon Douglas. A director who didn't necessarily have a lot of identity, but who could deliver a decent film. Remarkably enough, he was often allowed to make the sequel of a success film, but was not high enough in the pecking order to make the success film himself.
