Step Down to Terror plot
"STEP BY STEP... he made a career out of love.... and murder!"
With the permission of Police Inspector Mike Randall, former psychopathic serial killer Johnny Williams Walters is allowed to return to his hometown in California to visit his mother Sarah and sister-in-law and widow Helen Walters. Both are unaware of his criminal past. Johnny hopes to settle in his native village and start a new life there. But Helen, whose suspicions are aroused by Randall's visit, discovers the truth about her beloved brother-in-law. Unconvinced about Johnny's good intentions, he plots a systematic murder of Helen.

The sensational poster above (and title) makes a curious attempt to trick the viewer into thinking you might be watching some sort of Italian horror movie, when in fact it's just a very poor remake of Hitchcock's Shadow of a Doubt (Film, 1943) . Not only does it add nothing in terms of plot (the film is also 30 minutes shorter), the acting is also a lot less (Joseph Cotten and Teresa Wright are unparalleled) and the dynamics in the family are almost non-existent. I haven't seen Shadowin a while, but I seem to remember there were more than 4 family members present, this almost looked like some kind of (failed) play with the sparse cast.
