"The glamour, the strife, the intrigue of 18th century France!"
Oscar François de Jarjayes was born as a girl, but her father, who has always wanted a son, insists that she be raised as a boy, along with Andre Grandier, her nanny's grandson. As Oscar slowly matures, she is chosen to become captain of the guard at the Palace in Versailles. Oscar quickly learns of the problems of the monarchy and the condition of the poor people, which will eventually lead to the revolution. She also struggles with her feelings for her true love, Andre, and her duties as a member of the aristocracy and subject to the King and Queen.
