Fear of terrorism leads to increasing stigma and discrimination against Muslims. dr. Sami Al-Arian is a Palestinian refugee, university professor and human rights activist who has lived in the United States for over thirty years. For the last three years he has been in detention, in solitary confinement. Al-Arian is accused of providing material support to a terrorist organization. He himself says that his incarceration is an attempt to silence his political opinion. His six-month trial ended without a conviction. The jury could not reach an agreement. Still, Al-Arian remains imprisoned because the prosecutor threatens to prosecute him again. His wife Nahla Al-Arian and their children continue to try to prove his innocence.
