Teufelsbraten plot

'Teufelsbraten', that's what little Hildegard is called by her family. Her father is an illiterate factory worker and her mother a cleaning lady. She and Hildegard's grandmother must know nothing of Hildegard's will to learn to read and write. Fortunately, her grandfather understands her and teaches her the alphabet. In this way Hildegard can escape into her world of letters, words and literature. She wants nothing more than to end up at the gymnasium, but she encounters the misunderstanding of her parents.
