"THE BEST-SELLER ACTUALLY WRITTEN IN THE DEATH CELL!"

Whit Whittier is sentenced to death and awaits his execution. He looks back on his life, which eventually brought him to "Cell 2455" on the San Quentin kill list. In his youth Whit stole fruits and vegetables to feed his poor family. Later Whit ended up in serious crime, among other things to impress his then girlfriend Jo-Anne; then he killed his beloved Doll, when she was unfaithful to him.

Here you see (if this is all roughly correct) how the American system almost encourages crime, because it is the corrupt medical system that drives Whittier's family into poverty and that ultimately causes Whittier to turn to crime, it does not absolve him of his own responsibility for his crimes but still.

health care should be affordable but we all know how the corrupt system in america works.

The film is further strong in its structure and paints a clear picture of how the boy slowly slides into his hatred against the established order and the government.

A strong film with good performances by almost the entire cast, and an honest story that dares to question the system as a whole, something that I think no longer happens these days.
