Faro, la Reine des Eaux plot

After many years of exile, Zanga returns to his native village on the banks of the Niger. Because he is a bastard, he was chased away as an adolescent. Now he is an engineer, has made it in the capital and resides in the highest governmental circles. But the superstitious villagers consider him an intruder. When a girl nearly drowns in the river, this is a bad omen: Faro, the goddess of water, is very displeased by Zanga's return.
